Track impact

Sustained grassroots participation

Residents who sign up for the program agree to estimate the debris they collect and enter it into their online account. MS4s can then quantify the cumulative amount of priority pollutants kept out of local waterways by the program. Participants receive automated email reminders that their work is part of a larger community effort supported by collecting and reporting on a regular basis.

In Minnesota, more than 40% of program participants report the amount and type of debris they collect from their storm drains.

Statistics & reporting

Quantify the impact of pollution reduction and resident engagement. Data collection is what distinguishes Adopt-a-Drain from other drain adoption programs around the country. We built an effective and easy-to-use Web-based tool for MS4s (Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems) that allows administrators to:

  • View participation and impacts over time

  • Sort data by city, county, watershed, sub-watershed

  • Sort according to pollution type

  • Convert from gallons to pounds

  • Report on behalf of participants

  • Export .csv reports to analyze data

  • Edit reports to correct mistakes

  • Track debris for specific drains
